If you are nervous about finding a new Doctor in France, in this article we'll give you some key information on where to look, what to expect and how to prepare for your first appointment.
😷Who can consult a Doctor in France ?
Residents and non-residents can see a Doctor in France. The only difference will be the out-of-pocket costs. A basic consultation costs between 30€ and 65€ depending on the specialty of the doctor and the expected treatment. When you've registered to the French Health Insurance system, the state can cover up to 70% of this cost.

🩺Finding an english-speaking Doctor
Directories such as Doctolib and Maiia offer the option to search doctor's spoken language.
If you prefer a personnal recommendation, there are several Facebook groups for expats living in the country where people often give suggestions.
⚕️Finding a "médecin traitant"
It's very easy to register a doctor as your primary care physician. During your appointment, you can ask the doctor to be your "médecin traitant". Please note that if a doctor is not taking on new patients it will be indicated on his Doctolib profile. If they accept, they will submit the necessary information to your "Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie (CPAM)" online for you or give you a form to fill out and mail to your CPAM. You'll need your social security number to register.
You can benefit from better reimbursements from the Social Security if you declare a primary care physician.

🏥French emergency Doctors
Most doctors in France only see patients Monday through Friday: 08:00 - 20:00.
For non-emergency medical care outside of these hours or on a holiday, you can contact an "out-of-hours doctor", a médecin de garde, by dialing 116 117.
The service SOS Médecins also offers 24/7 access to house calls and office visits.
